Soba – Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant

Soba Amman is more than just a sushi bar as its name claims. It serves a top Japanese Food in Amman and is one of the four restaurants inside the InterContinental Hotel Amman. It opened last year in addition to the other restaurants; Burj Al Hamam – Arabic, Cinco de Mayo – Mexican, Indu – Indian as well as the open dining space and the cafe. Apart from the huge range of sushi rolls, they also offer salads and warm dishes, and of course, you have the advantage of a large drink menu within a 5-star hotel. In a Japanese manner, it has been set up in a semi-open space, using cubic shelves that are fitted with Japanese items and drinks, as room dividers.

Welcoming staff showed us our table and presented the menu on an iPad, which has a lovely modern touch of Japan along with all its traditions. The menu offers a wide variety of Japanese food items, starting with interesting salads, of course, Miso soup, all types of sushi, some noodle dishes, and hot pot dishes. For starters, we had the Crispy Volcano Salad, the Salmon Avocado Salad, and the Bluefin Tuna Tataki. Both salads were anything but boring. They have a subtle taste, not too much but spicy and with interesting flavors that you can not determine immediately. The crispy and spicy in combination with pear and shrimp or the cucumber and avocado with spicy mayonnaise were excellent. The most special starter, however, was the Blue Fin Tuna slices for sure. Slightly grilled and presented with a hint of green onion, chili, and a Ponzo sauce, this was just mouthwatering.

Following the starters, we had Mixed Fried Rice for the Kids, Yaki Soba – a pan-fried noodle dish and a selection of different sushi plates. Everything tasted fresh, exciting but light, so you don’t feel to stuffed. It was prepared freshly upon order and had interesting flavors that different ranges of spiciness. I found it really tasty as usually Japanese food is known to be very plain in taste, so even if it was not totally like in Japan, I loved it. Accompanying our food we had a JR Wines White Cabernet and it was delicious as well. For dessert, we ordered ice cream for the kids and a Blueberry Cheesecake from the cafe. I concluded with a Coffee Martini, which I had for the very first time and it was yummy.

All restaurants at InterContinental Amman are of course open not only to hotel guests but to external visitors alike. I also would like to highlight that Soba Amman has different offers and specials such as the Business Lunch, All You Can Eat Sushi every Friday and Monday as well as others. Opening times are from 12 noon to 11 PM.

A big thank you goes out to Intercontinental Amman for the invitation to some delicious Japanese Food! Looking forward to coming again and explore the other restaurants as well. For more info see below.
