BAO Basha – Fusion Food at Swefiah Village Amman

BAO BASHA is a new Asian/Jordanian Fusion Restaurant located at Swefiah Village. If you don’t know it yet, check my previous article about The Pitmaster, where I talked also a bit about Swefiah Village.

BAO BASHA – The Panda

BAO BASHA is located on the first floor of the Swefiah village complex. They have a small space for inside dining next to the open kitchen. Right next is a semi-open space, where you can sit as well. The interior is inspired by the Panda as a symbol for the Chinese cuisine that is artistically mixed with other cuisines. You can say it is a multi-national fusion cuisine based on steamed buns. It was invented by a Jordanian chef and his team who mostly were educated at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts in Amman.

The menu

As starters, we tried the cold Noodle Salad. It was a sensory mix of ingredients including glass noodles, parsley, quinoa with a sweet and spicy dressing, very nice. As main dishes we tried most of the regular buns, which are the Pulled Chicken Bao, the Pulled Short Ribs Bao and the Panko Eggplant. The chicken bao had red cabbage and a nice mix of spices and a yummy dressing. The pulled brisket was really tasty as well and the most interesting was for sure the Panko Eggplant. It combines grilled eggplant, reminding you of mutabal, with berry jam topped with Halloumi cheese. This gave a nice mix of bitter and sweet taste together with the pretty neutral taste of the buns.

The kids in the meantime enjoyed their potato bites and chicken pops while we went for the Pulled Short Rib rice bowl. It was a yummy mix of healthy ingredients plus perfect, tender meat seasoned with a mix of spices. I have to admit that it was not easy to always say what’s inside the dishes, but that’s the interesting side of this fusion cuisine and we really enjoyed it I have to say. The dessert was rather classic with a cinnamon roll and Ice Cream Bao, apart from the presentation on dry ice to create the steam.

Conclusion about Bao Basha

All in all BAO BASHA is a fresh and interesting small restaurant, definitively worthwhile visiting and I am sure they will present some delivery options in the future soon. The relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff deserve a compliment as well. Thx much to BAO BASHA and Nour who took their time to explain the story and menu of BAO BASHA and cared for as during our visit!
